High-Resolution 3D-Seismic Reflection Survey

Commissioned by the Leibniz Institute for Applied Geophysics (LIAG), the company DMT GmbH & Co. KG, Essen, conducted 3D reflection seismic measurements using the Vibroseis technique in June/July 2009. Seismic waves were generated on 2829 vibrator points (3 vibrators Mertz M12, Sweep 12-96 Hz, 10 s length, 8-fold) on the area of 26.3 km2 size and recorded by 2798 channels (geophone points, pattern of 12 geophones) in fixed spread geometry. The study area contains urban-industrial, agricultural and forestry districts to one third, each. The area is also crossed by several express roads and other main roads.

The following photos show the vibrator group at action in the city of Unterhaching,  close to a geothermal well site under construction (Kirchstockach) and the data control in the recording truck.

The following figure shows a map of geophone points (blue) and vibrator points (red) including CMP-coverage (up to about 300-fold in the centre, about 10-20-fold at the outer rims). Data processing and interpretation is being conducted at LIAG since August 2009.
