Coal Fires - Innovative Technologies for Exploration, Extinction and Monitoring in North China

Since 2003, LIAG has been participating at a BMBF project to extinguish subteranean coal fires in China. Objectives are numerical simulation of the fires, temperature monitoring and the resulting possibilities for sustainable extinction. Additionally a groundwater model is worked out to evaluate the possibilities to use water (saltwater) for fire fighting. For further information check www.coalfire.org.
