Magnetics Nothern Germany

This project evaluates the content of the new map of the anomalies of the earth's total magnetic field in Germany 1 : 1.000.000 in the short-wavelength range, that is related to local structures. This task must be adressed in the light of the interesting wavelengths, the interpolation algorithm, the extent of the study area, and the comparability with modern, high resolution surveys.

For a quantitative approach, i.e. the derivation of physical models, small-scale test sites are necessary for which sufficent structural and if possible petrophysical information is available. In an exemplary study we focus on the question, if Lower Cretaceous iron ores as potential carriers of high susceptibilities are depicted by magnetic anomalies in northern Germany. For this purpose we compare the nationwide aeromagnetic survey (Prakla-Seismos, 1965-1971) with new high-resolution local aeromagnetic data.
