Stable Isotopes

Mass spectrometry: stable isotopes
The gas mass spectrometer Thermo Electron Delta plus XP enables us to measure the stable isotope ratios of carbon-13 and oxygen-18 of carbonate on very small samples. This method is used for paleo-climatic reconstructions and to investigate changes in (paleo-)climatic environmental conditions. Our projects e.g. cover lake sediments from Mecklenburg-Western Pommerania, cave sinters and corals. The analysis of stable isotopes of water (deuterium and oxygen) is an established tool in the field of (ground-)water and environmental research. For years it has been successfully applied in isotope hydrological research tasks.
