Research Boreholes in the LIAG

General issues

In the institute there is an annual budget account for research boreholes. Such borehole projects run over a couple of years:
Planning and pre site survey phase, borehole drilling phase, result evaluation and publication phase.
For identification and selection of the scientific borehole project in an early planning phase the geoscientific community and partners of the institute become involved in order to create a cooperative scientific framework around the borehole project. However, the project should fit into the scientific topics of the institute.
In the last years the main targets of the research boreholes of the institute have been terrestrial sediment systems, but groundwater research and development of measuring techniques also.
The budget for boreholes can also be used to realise extensive geophysical experiments instead of boreholes.

Criteria catalogue

The institute submitted an official catalogue of criteria (in german only), which is used to identify those research borehole proposals, which should be realised by the institute.
